How long should a karate belt be?
The length is really up to personal preferences, organization guidelines, and competition rules. I personally like my belt to go down to mid-thigh, or an inch or two shorter, but I’ve seen people with belts that only come down about three inches from the knot, and people with belts that touch their knees.

- Find the middle of your obi by folding it in half.
- Wrap the belt around you, crossing over in the back, and bringing the ends around to your front.
- Overlap the ends (left over right) keeping the end with the tag on top.
- Without twisting the belt, tuck the top (tag end) under the belt and pull both ends tight.
How do you put on a belt?
Your pants should stay in place as you put your belt on. Insert your belt through the left-side loops first. Take the end of your belt, and begin inserting it into your belt loops with the loop on the front left side of your pants. Thread the belt end through each loop, pulling the belt through as you go.
